The “G” Family Kitchen Remodel: Modern Light Meets Everyday Comfort

When Function Meets Vision

Every remodel begins with a story. For the Gerrard family, it started with a kitchen that had served them well but no longer reflected the way they lived. The layout wasn’t their favorite — but after exploring several options, it became clear that keeping the existing floor plan offered the most efficient use of space.

Rather than forcing a new layout, we focused on elevating everything within it — the finishes, the lighting, and the overall feeling of the space. The goal was simple: turn a dated kitchen into one that felt bright, open, and welcoming again.

Light Changes Everything

Lighting sets the tone for any room, and this kitchen was no exception. The existing track lighting cast uneven shadows, making the space feel closed in. We replaced it with LED wafer lights — sleek, energy-efficient fixtures that create even illumination across every work surface. The result was immediate: brighter mornings, softer evenings, and a kitchen that finally felt alive.

Timeless Materials, Thoughtful Design

Cabinetry sets the visual foundation of any kitchen. We chose Kemper Merrimac cabinets in White for their clean lines and versatile appeal. The simple shaker profile and bright finish gave the room an instant lift, setting the stage for a design that feels both classic and current.

For the surfaces, LX Viatera Lumina quartz brought subtle movement and sophistication. The decision to carry the quartz up as a full-height backsplash added continuity and luxury, removing visual clutter and emphasizing the flow of light. The Jeffrey Alexander Stanton hardware in matte black provided contrast and personality, grounding the space with its timeless detail.

Color, Character, and Balance

To soften the crisp whites and tie everything together, we painted the walls in Sage Gray — a calming neutral that plays beautifully with both warm and cool tones. It adds just enough depth to give the kitchen a curated feel while keeping it approachable and livable.

The homeowners chose to keep their existing flooring — a decision that added warmth and continuity throughout the home. The gentle wood tones complement the cooler color palette, creating a perfectly balanced environment.

The End Result: A Kitchen That Feels Like Home

What once felt dated and confined now feels bright, functional, and timeless. By keeping the best elements of the space and updating the rest with intention, this remodel shows how good design isn’t always about starting over — it’s about reimagining what’s already there.

This family Kitchen is a perfect reflection of Midwest Remodel’s philosophy: every space should feel as good as it looks, blending craftsmanship with comfort and design that feels like home.
